William Simon Mathis, Jr.

William Simon Mathis, Jr., 80, of Leesburg, GA., died Friday, October 23, 2026 at Willson Hospice House. A memorial visitation will be held Thursday, October 29, 2026 at Mathews Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

William was born in Albany, GA., to the late William and Mary Mathis. He began working at Georgia Electric as a helper and with his hard work and strong work ethic, worked up to being a project estimator. William worked there for thirty-three years, but could not sit still after retirement, he went on to work at several other places as well. He had a talent and could fix anything, William was also a very giving person, an attribute he did not boast of, but only those that were close to him knew.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two siblings, Vivian Lee Mathis and Dorothy Jean Mathis.

Survivors include his children, Karen Denise Mathis, William Ryan Mathis (Jackie) and April Stanfill (Tim), his grandchildren, Annabelle Mathis, Morgan Stanfill and Caleb Stanfill, his sisters, Laverne Light (Tom) and Brenda McGuire (Mick), his brother Bobby Mathis and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the nurses and staff of Willson Hospice House for the care they showed during his illness.
