Dr. William Kelvin Lane, 91, of Albany, GA, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2025, at The Willson Hospice House. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Porterfield Methodist Church, with Rev. Chuck Knight officiating. A private family committal will follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Cemetery in Rebecca, GA.
Born at home in Rebecca, GA, on July 7, 1934, Dr. Lane was the son of Joseph and Dorothy Lane. He graduated from Rebecca High School in 1951 and went on to earn a degree in Biology from the University of Georgia. While attending the Medical College of Georgia, he met his future wife, Rachel Virginia Morgan, on a blind date. They married in 1956 and soon began their family. Dr. Lane began his medical career as a general practitioner in Ashburn, Ga in 1961. He later completed his medical residency in Urology in Jacksonville, FL.
Dr. Lane proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War as physician, stationed in Vung Tau,Vietnam. In 1971, he and his family moved to Albany, GA, where he joined a medical practice that would later become Albany Urology. He continued to serve patients in the Albany community until his retirement in 2004. Throughout his long and distinguished career, Dr. Lane held numerous leadership roles, including serving with the Dougherty County Medical Society and as Chief of Staff at Palmyra Medical Center.
Outside of medicine, he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf and tennis. He especially delighted in attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. He was a devoted member of Porterfield Methodist Church and Doublegate Country Club.
In addition to his parents and siblings, Dr. Lane was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Rachel “Bobbi” Lane; his son, William Kelvin “Buddy” Lane, Jr.; and his daughter-in-law, Lynn Lane.
He is survived by his children: John (Ivy) Lane, Ed Lane, Mark (Melodie) Lane, Gini Lane and (Debra) Lane; his sisters: Frances Meeks, Janis Hess, and Dorothy Joe Bean; and his grandchildren: Lindsey (Danny) Zevnik, Mary Brooks (Ernie) Cole, Matthew (Hayley) Lane, Morgan (Jimmy) Gillam, Rachel (Eduardo) Flores, Chandler Lane, Sarah (Daniel) Neer, Mack Lane, Lane Fix and Kristen (Tyler) Hill. He also leaves behind seven great-grandchildren: William Anton Zevnik, John Paul Zevnik, Collier Phillips Zevnik, Millie Pearl Cole, John Matthew Lane III, Edith Ivy Gillam, and Natalia Frances Flores. Additionally, he is survived by his special friend Jo Ann Pitts, of Ty Ty, Georgia.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the Parlor at Porterfield Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dr. Lane’s memory to Willson Hospice House, 320 Foundation Lane, Albany, GA 31707.
