William "Terry" Hart

After an extended illness, William. T. "Terry" Hart, 82, passed away May 25th, surrounded by the love of his life at the local Albany, GA hospital.  Born July 7, 1943 in Carbondale, Ill, Terry was a devoted husband of 62 years to Celeste Scuras Hart of Murphysboro, Ill.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Mary Hart of Murphysboro, Ill and his daughter Angela Hart Pierce, PharmD of Jackson, MS. He is survived by his son, Joel Hart of MN and a grandson, W. Autin Pierce of Jackson, MS and a granddaughter, Gabriella Hart. Also survived by two nephews Daniel Scuras, John E. Vaughan and a niece, Katie Scuras.

Terry devoted more than 40 years to the railroad industry, serving in leadership roles with the Broe Group/Omni TRAX, North American RailNet, Gulf & Ohio Railways and the Illinois Central.  He served on the National Defense Executive Reserve and Director of the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association and Georgia Railroad Association President.

Outside of work he enjoyed tennis, competing in Georgia Championships, crafting customized canes, raising horses, archery, martial arts and his beloved pets. Terry will be rememeber for his strong work ethic, generous spirit and unwavering love for his family and animals.  

In lieu of flowers please make memorials to a "no kill" animal shelter of your choice, there are several in Albany.

His memorial service will be held 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 7, 2026 at Mathews Funeral Home.
