Wesley Tyrone "Ty" Wingate

Wesley Tyrone “Ty” Wingate, 83, of Albany, GA died Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at his residence following a lengthy illness.  Graveside funeral services will be held Friday, June 23, 2023 at 11:00 am at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Mitchell County, GA.  Rev. Andrew Kornegay will officiate. 

Ty was born in Mitchell County, GA on September 18, 1939 to the late CT and Ethel Wingate.  He grew up in Albany and graduated from Albany High School.  Ty met Judy Deen on a blind date in 1965 and they married on September 11, 1966.

Ty was employed with Sears and Roebuck for twenty-five years. After retiring, he was employed with Wesco Electrical Supply. Ty also taught electronics at Albany Technical College.  He was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church, the Adult IV Sunday School Class and served on the Building and Grounds committee.  Ty enjoyed woodworking, working in his yard, reading, and spending time with his family.  He had a passion for spreading the Gospel and enjoyed going on mission trips with his church.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Wingate.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 56 years, Judy Deen Wingate, his daughters, Janna Fretwell of Albany, and Shea Harris (Des) of Camilla, his siblings, Cecil Wingate of Pebble City and Linda Pollock of Pelham, his grandchildren, Dailyn Fretwell, Parker Fretwell, Perry Fears, Weston Fears, Tristen Harris, Tyler Harris and Taylen Harris and great-grandchildren, Taiden Harris and Tennissen Harris.

Ty was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm Thursday at Mathews Funeral Home.

Those desiring may make memorials in memory of Ty to Lakeside Baptist Church or the American Heart Association.
