Wanda Leigh Proctor, 82, of Lee County, GA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at her daughter’s residence, surrounded by her family.
Memorial services will be held Friday, February 6, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Porterfield Methodist Church, with Rev. Chuck Knight officiating. A private entombment will follow at the Columbarium at Porterfield Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service in the Mabel Haley Parlor.
Wanda was born on August 18, 1943, in Albany, GA, to the late Herman and Lois Olivent. A true Albany native, she spent her entire life rooted in the community she loved, graduating from Albany High School and later attending college. While visiting relatives in Doerun, GA, Wanda met the love of her life, Ramsey Wade Proctor. They married in 1961 and shared fifty-nine devoted years together before his passing in 2021—a love marked by loyalty, laughter, and quiet strength.
Wanda dedicated many years of faithful service to The Carlton Company, where she worked from 1979 until retiring in 2002 and became a familiar and cherished presence to all who knew her. Retirement never slowed her down; she went on to work another ten years in the library at Darton College, a fitting place for someone who so deeply loved reading and learning.
Her faith was central to her life. Wanda was an active and devoted member of Porterfield Methodist Church, the Jesus 3:16 Sunday School Class, and the Walk to Emmaus community. She was also a longtime member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. Wanda found joy in sewing, practicing yoga at the YMCA, and sharing meals and laughter with friends—especially Thursday breakfasts at Cracker Barrel and Saturdays at Hog N Bones, traditions she treasured.
Wanda’s love for her family, especially her grandkids and great-grandkids was evident in her smile and how much joy they brought her. She found joy every day that she woke up and one of Wanda’s oldest and dearest friends said “When you look at your mama, you’re looking at a life well lived!
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Ramsey Wade Proctor; and her brother, Tommy Olivent.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Sandy (Tim) Hanington of Albany, GA, and Kelly English of Cartersville, GA; her grandchildren, Jason (Sabrina) Joiner of Moultrie, GA, John (Jessica) Joiner of Sale City, GA, Heather (Sy) Crumley of Ty Ty, GA, Jennifer (Matt) Moorman of Warner Robins, GA, Lee (Rachel) Davis of Thomasville, GA, Ramsey (Ilissa) English of Albany, GA, and Peyton (Casey) English of Doerun, GA; and fifteen great-grandchildren who were the light of her later years.
Those wishing to honor Wanda’s memory may make memorial contributions to Porterfield Methodist Church, 2200 Dawson Road, Albany, GA 31707.
