Wanda Kay Lanier Hudgins, age 78, is now at peace in the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ. She passed away January 12, 2026 at her home in Albany, GA.
Wanda was born April 26, 1947 to the late Christine and Roy Lanier of Patmos, GA.
She met her husband, Lamar, at a young age. They became childhood sweethearts and married at the age of 18. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past September 3. Together, they had two children – Elizabeth “Libby” Powell (Don) of Marietta, GA and James Hudgins (Ruth) of Rogers, AR. Wanda has six grandchildren – Nicholas Reale, Jay Hudgins, Caleb Hudgins, Micah Hudgins, Brittany Powell Seeloff (Tucker) and Alicia Powell. She also has twin great-grandchildren – Powell and Murphy Seeloff. They all will deeply miss their grandmother and “KK.”
Her siblings are Mary Nell Hall (Chuck, deceased) of Martin, GA; Sam Lanier (Pat, deceased) of Albany, GA; Ray Lanier of Milton, FL; Randy Lanier (Margie) of Wetumpka, AL; and Ken Lanier (Trina) of Patmos, GA.
Wanda was a devoted homemaker and also served as Business Manager for Southern D E, Inc. She loved her Lord Jesus, her family (and all the cousins), and each and every one of her numerous family reunions – her favorite reunion being the annual Griffin Reunion in Patmos, GA. She could cook like none other. Her homemade fried chicken, hot chocolate, and strawberry cakes were legendary. She cherished every moment with her family, especially marveling at the Hudgins' spectacular annual fireworks display at Christmas.
She was a faithful servant of the Lord. She led by example, teaching Sunday School at Gillionville Baptist and other churches for over 50 years. Her home was a haven of prayer and support, not just for her children but for countless others in need of guidance and comfort. She was an avid reader of books and read the Bible through over 35 times.
At the family’s request there will be a visitation at 1:00 pm followed by the funeral at 2:00 pm at Gillionville Baptist Church, 4614 Gillionville Rd, Albany, GA on Saturday, January 17, 2026. Following, there will be a Graveside Service at Patmos Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery, 1145 SR-216, Leary, GA.
