Thomas Michael Swan

Thomas Michael Swan, 78, of Albany, Georgia passed away on February 26th, 2023 at his residence after a long struggle with cancer.

Tom was born on August 22nd, 1944 to Colonel A. B. Swan and Ann Maguire Swan in Anaconda, Montana. After Tom graduated from Annandale High School in 1963, he joined the Navy and served his country during the Vietnam War on the USS America. He then went on to get his bachelor’s degree in political science at the University of Georgia. Tom went on to have a long career in banking.

Tom met his wife Lavinia in Athens at the University of Georgia. They married in 1970 and together raised their son, Cole Swan. Tom enjoyed Georgia football and loved to fish at Flathead Lake in Missoula, Montana.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to his hospice care takers and in particular his personal aid Mrs. Drana’ Godwin. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Colonel A. B. Swan and Ann Maguire Swan. He is survived by wife Lavinia Swan, son Cole Swan (Lydia Swan), granddaughter Reagan Swan, brother Scott Swan, sister Stefanie Muto, nieces Chelsea Simpson, Hailey Muto, and nephew Marshall Muto.

Services will be held at Mathews Funeral Home on Friday March 3rd at 6 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Wilson Hospice House, 320 Foundation Lane, Albany, GA, 31707 or Mars Hill Cemetery, c/o of Marie Ford, 926 Ford Rd., Edison, GA, 39846.
