Thomas (Barney) L. Knighton

Thomas L. (Barney) Knighton, 79, of Lee County, GA., died Sunday, December 4, 2022 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, December 9, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Mathews Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Andersonville National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. with military honors. Rev. Mark Walker will officiate.

Born in Columbus, GA, Mr. Knighton graduated RE Lees Institute, he was a veteran serving in the Vietnam War with the Navy Seabees as a utilityman 1^St. Class. He was a retired Sgt. with the Albany Police Department retiring in 1996 and had studied at Leadership at LaGrange College and also Organizational Leadership at LaGrange College and criminal justice at Albany Junior College.

He was a member of the Exchange Club of Albany and District President, longtime scoutmaster and Boy Scout Silver Beaver Award and a member of the American Legion Post #30.

Survivors include his wife, Pat Thompson Knighton, Lee Co., GA, a son, Thomas (Tom) Knighton, Jr. (Jennifer), daughters, Lori (Andy) Sparling, (Andy) Sylvester, GA, Jennifer Magaddino (Joey), Lee Co., GA and six grandchildren.  

The family will receive friends Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at Mathews Funeral Home.
