Suzanne Michelle Bertram Mathews,  53, of Abany, GA, passed away Friday, March 13, 2026. Graveside funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, March 17, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at graveside in Leesburg  Cemetery. Rev. Mike Carter will officiate.

She was a beloved daughter, mother, Nana, sister, and friend.

Suzanne Michelle Mathews, lovingly known as Michelle, passed away on March 13, surrounded by the love of her family. Michelle was a gentle soul with a truly sweet spirit, always remembered for the kindness and love she gave to those around her. She was born May 14, 1972, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, to Mike and Robbie Bertram, who loved her deeply from the very beginning.

For the first few years of her life, Michelle was the family’s only child. Then her brother Jamie came along, and later her sister Melanie. From early on, Michelle had a nurturing spirit. She was a bit of a “little mama,” always wanting to help and always wanting to make Mama and Daddy proud. Being the oldest came naturally to her, and she carried that same loving heart with her throughout her life.

If you knew Michelle, you knew how sweet she was. Not just nice, but truly sweet. She had a gentle spirit and a quiet way about her. Michelle was someone who went with the flow. She didn’t argue, didn’t create conflict, and didn’t make things difficult. She just loved with a genuine heart.

Being a mother was what Michelle wanted most in life. Her children, Brent and Meg, were the center of her world, and she loved them deeply. She was incredibly proud of them both and had profound joy in watching them grow and build their own lives. It meant a lot to her to see Brent building a life with his fiancée, Sabrina, and Meg married to Dewald. Michelle loved them both dearly because of the way they loved Brent and Meg.

One of the greatest joys of Michelle’s life was becoming “Nana.” The births of Paxton, Hendrix, Everett and Natalee made her Nana, a role she treasured from their births. Her grandchildren brought her so much happiness. She especially loved being at the ball field watching Hendrix and Paxton play and cheering them on. Natalee and Everett are still little, but her family will always make sure they grow up knowing just how deeply their Nana loved them.

Throughout her life, Michelle faced difficult seasons with quiet strength. Even when things were hard, she remained the same gentle and loving person her family had always known.

In Michelle’s final season of life, many people showed up for her with genuine love and compassion. Those who were there, saw just how deeply she was loved and how faithfully her family stood beside her.

Michelle is survived by her parents, Mike and Robbie Bertram; her children, Brent Fryer and Meg Truter; Brent’s fiancée Sabrina and Meg’s husband Dewald; her grandchildren Hendrix, Natalee, Everett, and Paxton; her brother Jamie Bertram (wife Jenny); her sister Melanie Emory (husband Ryan); and her husband Scott Mathews.

While our hearts are broken, we find peace in knowing Michelle is finally free from pain and resting in the presence of the Lord. Her sweet spirit and the love she gave so freely will always live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. We also find comfort in believing she is now in heaven, reunited with Meme and Papa, Grandmother Grace, and Pop. We can only imagine seeing Papa welcoming his “Bimbo” home.
