Ruth Kisor Norris, 92 of Preston, GA, passed away peacefully, Sunday, July 12,2026, at the Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus, with her son and daughter-in law by her side.
Ruth was born in Webster County on December 26, 1933. She lived most of her life in Preston. In the early 60’s, she worked in civil service at Warner Robins Air Force Base. In July of 1963, she began working for Southern Loan Company in Americus. She retired in 2000 after 37 years as office manager. Ruth was a member of Preston Baptist Church where she attended the Adult Senior Sunday School Class taught by Mr, Terry Harrell. She thoroughly enjoyed her Sunday school class and missed being able to attend.
Ruth loved gardening and flowers. She even had a license from DNR allowing her to grow and sell native plum leaf azaleas. She was a great cook and was known for her homemade pickles, jalapeno cornbread, and pecan pies. She was passionate about her birds. Bluebirds, purple martins and hummingbirds. She would have hundreds of hummingbirds each year. She loved quilting. She hand stitched some of the most beautifully intricate designs. She was very passionate about Elvis. She and her niece Margaret attended several concerts. Ruth will be greatly missed by her family and friends, especially her grandchildren who she adored. She always told them “love you bunches”!
She was the daughter of the late Cleve and Susie Walker Kisor.
She was also preceeded in death by her three brothers, Sanford Cleveland, John Sampson, and Ralph Arnold Kisor; four sisters, Susie Mae Brown, Fannie Belle Kisor, Ethel Kisor Smith, and Alice Cenus Kisor; a sister-in-law, Nita Dixon Kisor; a brother-in-law, Richard Smith; a niece, Rachel Ellen Whatley; two nephews, Alvin Brown and James Darrell Kisor.
Ruth is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Wiley & Kim Norris of Preston; three granddaughters, Kara (Brian) Summerlin of Hazelhurst, Shelby (Matt) Felts of Valdosta, and Regan (Jarett) Moore of Kennesaw; five great-grandchildren, Nolan Moore, Delainey Summerlin, Evelynn Felts, Emerey Moore and Kinley Summerlin; her niece/best friend, Margaret Livingston; a great nephew, Bobby (Justina) Brown, who she treated like her second son; her “adopted son” Osborne “Oz” (Heather) Bottorff; a sister, Dollie Kisor Hayes; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held at a later date. Interment will be in the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that honorariums be made to Preston Baptist Church, 6677 Cass Street, Preston, GA 31824; or to Gentiva Hospice, 201 E Lamar Street, Americus, GA 31709.
