Roxanne Burns Hargis

1 Peter 2: 24-26 “He himself bore our sins, in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by His wounds you have been healed. For you were like sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.”

Roxanne Burns Hargis, 61, passed away peacefully at her mother's home in Albany, GA on December 1, 2025 in the early morning hours. She was surrounded by her husband, children, mother, and sister during this time.

Roxanne grew up in Albany, GA with 2 brothers and a sister, and though the teenage years of her life were difficult, she continued to show her grit, determination, and passion for bettering her life for herself and her children. As a single mother, she completed a Co-Op program at Georgia Tech in Atlanta, GA and Amoco Oil in Texas City, TX to earn her degree in Chemical Engineering. Though she had 3 young girls, she was able to graduate with honors in 1994 and started her career at Procter & Gamble as a Process Engineer. This opportunity brought her back home to Albany.

As she and the girls settled into their new life, a new love arrived. Randy courted and pursued Roxanne, because he saw a fire and passion in her that he not only admired but wanted to emulate. They married in May of 1996 and welcomed a baby boy in April of 1998.

Soon after, a new opportunity arrived to move to Cape Girardeau, MO for a P&G expansion project. During this time, their love for the LORD intensified, and they felt called to mission work. In 2002, they moved to Heartland, MO and went into full time ministry. Two years later, they completed their 4 year process of adopting two beautiful children, a brother and sister, from Bulgaria. After 12 years of service to GOD, they moved with their teenage children to Kansas City, MO, where they have resided since 2014.

While living in Kansas City, her love for gardening and working with her hands in the soil grew. She enjoyed planting seeds, watching them grow, and reaping the harvest. She felt the growth of the seeds was a perfect analogy for how JESUS loves us and even in our darkest times, like the seeds, we are growing in His Love and through His strength, we are able to endure.

Her light will continue to shine brightly even in her passing, and her husband, children, and grandchildren will ensure that her legacy lives on.

She is survived by her husband, Randy Hargis. Her children: Christina Letlow, Andrea Snelson, Jennifer Laird, Zechariah Hargis, Hannah Jackson, Joshua Hargis, Jennifer Palan, and Danielle Roberts. Her grandchildren: Charlie Letlow, Ethan Letlow, Maximillian Hao, Jazmine Hao, Haylie Laird, Kaysie Laird, Boaz Jackson, Ira Jackson, Iris Jackson, Kaytlin Davis, and Andrew Roberts. Her mother, Cindy Burns, and her siblings: Richard Burns , Maria Hibbard, and John Burns Junior.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 pm on Thursday, December 4, 2025 at Matthews Funeral Home.

Her funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Friday, December 5, 2025 at Sherwood Baptist Church officiated by Dr. Jim McBride and Rev. John Spencer. Entombment to follow at Crown Hill Mausoleum.
