Robert Rhodes

Robert E. Rhodes, 71, of Albany, GA, died October 14, 2020 while in Sumter County, GA. Graveside funeral services will be held Saturday at 3:00 PM. Mr. Ross Powell will officiate. Please observe social distancing. Robert was born on September 22, 1949 in Barwick, GA to the late Harmon and Lorine Rhodes. He grew up in Albany, GA, was part of a Band where he played the guitar and graduated from Albany High School in 1968. After High School, he joined the United States Army. He served his country gallantly for three years, receiving the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star during his time stationed in Republic of Vietnam. Robert returned to Albany, GA and was employed with the Marine Corps Logistic Base and retired in 2002. He was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, started Robert Rhodes Lawn Care and enjoyed hunting and working in his yard. Survivors include his wife, Ann Marie Rhodes of Albany, GA, a daughter, Elizabeth (Carl) Whelchel of Houston, TX, two step-sons, Christopher (Jodi) Bryson of Anderson, SC and Patrick (Nicole) Bryson of Canton, GA, his siblings, Nancy (Jerry) Justice, Steve Rhodes and William Rhodes all of Albany, GA and five grandchildren, Grace Whelchel, Isabel Whelchel, Wesley Bryson, Kate Bryson and MacKenzie Bryson. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Mathews Funeral Home.
