Robert (Bob) O. Clapp

Robert O. (Bob) Clapp, 67, of Worth County, GA died Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 10:00 AM at Mathews Funeral Home with Masonic Rites. Interment will follow at Andersonville National Cemetery with full military honors.

A native of Exeter, NH, Mr. Clapp has resided in the Albany and Sylvester Georgia area since 1976. Moving here from Providence, RI, he proudly served his country in The United States Marine Corps for 26 years and served two tours of duty in Vietnam. After retiring from active duty as a Master Gunnery Sergeant in 1987, Mr. Clapp continued service to his country with the Unites States Marine Corps as a civil service employee at The Marine Corps Logistic Base in Albany, GA. He retired from civil service in April of 2011.

Mr. Clapp was a member of Central Baptist Church in Hartford, CT, Dougherty Lodge #591, and Hasan Shriners where he was a member and past commander of The Hasan Legion of Honor.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Clapp of Sylvester, GA, daughter, Hollie Clapp Crumley and her husband Richard of Demorest, GA, two sons, Rob Clapp and his wife, Mieko of Okinawa, Japan and Steven Clapp of Fredericksburg, VA, his father, Royal O. Clapp of Worchester, MA, a sister, Carol Vallee and her husband, Rich of South Bridge, MA, a brother, John Clapp and his wife, Cindy of Jefferson, MA, three grandchildren, Hope Slegers and her husband, Christopher of Oklahoma City, OK, Christan Panjic and her husband, Abe of Eufaula, AL and Richard C. Crumley, Jr. of McGuire AFB, NJ and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Pauline Tuttle.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Mathews Funeral Home.

Mr. Clapp deeply cared for children and transported kids with medical problems to Shriners Hospitals for medical care on a regular basis.
