Ray Shierling

Ray Shierling, 94, of Albany, GA, died December 25, 2025 at his residence. Graveside funeral services will be held Monday, December 29, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Crown Hill Cemetery. Rev. John Spencer will officiate.

Mr. Shierling was born on September 9, 1931 in Blakely, GA to the late Charles William Shierling, Sr. and Edith Jernigan Shiering. He was a graduate of Blakely Union High School, ABAC and The University of Georgia (1952). He served as a chief epidemiologist for the Department of Public Health through the State of Georgia, for thirty-four years.

After his retirement in the early 1990’s, he and his wife enjoyed many years of travel with family and friends. In his free time, he enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, gardening, loved reading the daily newspaper, and grilling charcoal steaks for his family. After moving to Albany from Savannah in 1964, he was a lifetime member of Sherwood Baptist Church. He was a true, kind gentleman and a genuine salt of the earth person. In addition to his parents, preceding him in death was his brother, Charles William Shierling, Jr. of Blakely, GA.

His survivors include the love of his life of 63 years, Jewel Wilkerson Shierling of Albany; two loving children, Michael Ray Shierling and his wife, Sala of Suwannee, GA, and Edey Shierling Abbott and her husband, Philip of Albany. He has two caring grandchildren, Graham Shierling and Evan Abbott.

In lieu of Flowers and donations, Prayers are welcome.
