Ray Edwin King, 88, of Leesburg, GA., died Friday, May 22, 2026 at his residence. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery with military honors.
Ray was born in Moultrie, GA., to the late Cecil and Dessie King. He served his country in the United States Navy on board the U.S.S Princeton. He later went on to work and retire from the maintenance department of Dougherty County School System. Ray also retired from MacGregor Golf, where he made golf clubs for several years.
Ray was an avid animal lover and was known as the “Chicken Man”. He loved all types of animals, except cats. Ray loved to dance and listening to old country music. Red was his favorite color and he loved his red pick-up trucks. On occasion, Ray enjoyed going “Ching-Ching”. More than all of that, Ray loved God and his family greatly.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by four siblings, Louis Harris, Lila Mae Fountain, Zerlean Chevallier and Eloise Saba.
Survivors include his loving wife of sixty seven years, Patricia “Pat” King, his children, Penny Gibson (Joel), Anthony King, Deadra McCrary (Reggie) and Valerie Kendrick (Tommy), his grandchildren, Candice Johnson (Bobby), Joshua King (Karen), Marena Tan (Stan), DJ Cargile (Casey), Halee Chapman (Nick), JR Smith (Alyssa Bridges) and Taylor McCrary, his great-grandchildren, Tristan King, Wyatt King, Willow Padgett, Kelsey King, Jayce Chapman, Ryder Chapman, Rayla Chapman and Ellie Bridges, his brother, Darrell King and his sister Barbara Murphy.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
