Phillip Wayne Ragsdale

Born in Nashville, Tennessee, Phil graduated from East Nashville High School where he excelled in football and basketball, and remained a member of their Alumni Association.  He joined the Army and served for thirty-two years, retiring as a Sergeant Major.  His military career took him to locations throughout the United States and Europe, and included a tour in Vietnam in 1969.  As an avid golfer he was able to work his dream job as Groundskeeper and Head Marshall at Grand Island Golf Course, Albany GA.  He loved his family, a perfectly manicured lawn, sports, and cars.

He was preceded in death by his parents John D. Ragsdale and Georgia Pearl Ragsdale Bates, a brother John L. Ragsdale and a sister Frances Ragsdale King.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Anne Walters Ragsdale, Lee County GA, children Philip Wayne Ragsdale, Jr. (Marsha) of Williamsburg VA, Michael Lee Ragsdale (Bonnie) of Ashburn VA, Gerald William Ragsdale (Dana) of Manassas VA; Patricia Anne Stone (Wes) of Haymarket VA, sisters Rita Stiles (Walter) of Wilmar AR and Carmen Martina of Charleston SC, nine grandchildren Philip, Cory, Alicia, Tierney, Brittany, Matt, Natalie, Lex and Max, and four great-grandchildren Leah, Dylan, Lilly, and Emma.

The family will receive friends Saturday, January 14, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home.
