Peggy Jeane Johnson

Peggy “Jeanne” Greer Johnson passed away peacefully on Monday, July 24, 2023 at her home. She was born on August 7, 1951 in Augusta, Georgia.

Some people knew her as Jeannie while others knew her as Peggy. She was commonly referred to as Mama Angel by her family because of her angelic personality and gentle soul. Jeannie was patient, loving, kind and selfless. She was everything to her family.

Jeannie was the daughter of a traveling salesman and lived in many different cities including Chattanooga, TN, West Cramerton, NC, Decatur, GA, and Hicksville, Long Island, NY.

During her high school years, her family settled in Decatur, GA where she graduated from Gordon High School in 1968.

In 1972, her family moved to Albany, GA. She began working at her family book and video store, Lowell’s. During the 80’s and 90’s you’d often find Jeannie behind the cash register.

Although the last several years left Jeannie physically unable to do the things she enjoyed, she faced the battle head on and with courage. Her strength in weakness was an inspiration to her family.

Those who cherished and loved her in life were her children Brian Earl Burdette (Melissa) and Jennifer Anne Burdette; grandchildren Brantley and Beau Burdette; siblings Alan Greer (Marilyn), Anne Marie Norman (Chris); nephew Tommy Greer; nieces Rebecca Greer Whitehead (Brent) and Brittany Greer Corliss.

There has been a joyous heavenly reunion between those who preceded Jeannie in death, her parents, Lowell D. Greer and Peggy Dorman Greer, and brother Thomas Richard Greer.

A verse that gives us much comfort is Psalm 4:8. “ I will lie down in peace and sleep, for You alone, O Lord, will keep me safe.” Jeannie is now in the arms of Jesus and dancing on streets of gold. Completely healed and whole again.

The family would like to receive family and friends at her home, 2115 Lullwater Road, Albany, GA on Thursday, July 27, 2023 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm to Celebrate and Honor her Life.
