Gladys Patricia Pittman Jarrett, 83, of Albany, GA, died November 24, 2022 at her residence. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 28, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Norman Denny will officiate.
Pat was born on December 18, 1938 in Blakely, GA to Charles and Eva Hill Pittman. She moved to Albany, GA in 1956 upon graduation from Union High School in Blakely, GA. During her high school years, she played basketball and was voted the “Wittiest” and the "Best Sport" among her Senior Class. After moving to Albany, she started a career with Southern Bell Telephone Company where she worked for 38 years. She began as an operator, later being promoted to be the first female Frame Attendant. Upon retirement, she was an Electronic Technician.
On March 15, 1957, Pat married her High School Sweetheart, Dwight Terrell Jarrett. From this marriage, she had three children. Over the years, as an active member of the Calvary Baptist Church, she served as Sunday School attendance secretary, nursery worker, children & adult Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher and was a member of the Sanctuary Choir. Pat was quite the athlete, as she played church and city league softball. She loved SEC football and basketball, especially Auburn, as two of her daughters graduated from Auburn University. Pat was also an avid gardener and loved to trade plants with many of her friends and neighbors. Square dancing also became a hobby of hers, as well as bowling. An animal lover, Pat had many pets over the years, most notably, Jake, a Chow-Schnauzer mix who loved to ride her golf cart and collect shoes from neighbors’ carports. She was comforted in her later years by her beloved Pomeranian, Brodie.
Her husband of 48 years, Dwight, passed away in March of 2005. She was fortunate enough, by the grace of God, to meet and marry another love in her life. On September 6, 2013, Pat married Robert (Bob) Jarrett. She felt very fortunate to have married two good men, both Jarretts, but not related to one another. After Pat’s cancer diagnosis, Bob remained a devoted caregiver until the very end. The Lord blessed them with nine years together. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Eva Hill Pittman, three brothers: Charles David Pittman, William David Pittman and Billy Ray Pittman.
She is survived by her three children, Kenneth Warren Jarrett (Rhonda) of Sylvester, Kay Jarrett Martin, (deceased, Russell) of Auburn, and Karla Jarrett Langston (Greg) of Auburn; three grandchildren, Jarrett Mann Martin of Athens, Allie Langston Luck (Robert) of Auburn, and Hayden Grace Langston of Auburn; three stepdaughters, Carla Beckom, Yvonne Rudolph and Dawn Reynolds, as well as a niece and many nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm, Monday before the service at Mathews Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Gillionville Baptist Church, 4614 Gillionville Rd., Albany, GA, 31721.
