Otis Wiley (Buddy) Mitchell

Otis Wiley (Buddy) Mitchell, 76, of Albany, GA passed away Saturday, September 30, 2023 at his residence. Memorial services will be held Thursday, October 5, 2023 at 11:00 am at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Roy Cook will officiate.

Buddy grew up in Albany, Georgia, and graduated from Albany High School where he played on the football team. He attended Georgia Southwestern College.

Buddy loved the outdoors where he hunted, rode horses, and fished for bass. He was a winner of several bass tournaments. He was an avid University of Georgia football fan. He loved the Dawgs and pulling for them in the games. He enjoyed watching wrestling with his daughter, Chelsea.

Buddy worked for Merita Bread Company, Dolly Madison, and Flowers Industries as a main bread route salesman. After retirement, Buddy worked at Lee County Publix for six years before retiring again. He was a member of Gillionville Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Robbin Bird Mitchell; his daughter, Chelsea Louise Ligget; his father, James Mitchell; and his mother, Zella Louise Mitchell.

Survivors include his daughter, Christina Marie Beaty (Jonathan) of Albany; step-sons, T.J. Farmer (Tammie) of Sylvester and Cliff Farmer (Lynn) of Leesburg; and son-in-law, Caleb Ligget, of Leesburg.

Grandchildren are: Emmalee Ligget, Ivy Ligget, Dakota Farmer, Layton Farmer, and Aubree Farmer.

Buddy leaves behind his best friend and pet dog, Bear.

Others include a cousin, John Bowen (Beverly) of Dawson, and close friends, Harry and Gayle Fisher of Dawson.

The family will receive friends following the services at Mathews Funeral Home.
