Norma Ussery Wilson

Norma Ussery Wilson passed away at home on March 31, 2023, at the age of 64.

Norma was born February 25th, 1959 to the late Hugh D. Ussery and Jean (Moore)Ussery. She was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, William David Wilson, II; her sister, Nancy Ouzts; and brother, Wayne Ussery.

Norma was born in Tallahassee, Florida, and attended Godby High School, graduating in 1977. She spent several years as a legal secretary, working for law firms in both Tallahassee and Albany. Norma then became the official court reporter for the State Court of Dougherty County; a title which she held proudly for 25 years before retiring due to health reasons. She often said she’d never be able to retire and they would have to drag her out in her rolling chair to make her leave.

Most mornings you would find Norma sitting on her back porch enjoying her must have minimum of 3 cups of coffee. On the weekends you could find her with friends playing cards, especially Quiddler, which was fitting considering she had been deemed the “Grammar Police” by everyone for years.

Norma is survived by her daughter, Jessica Eddins (husband Tim) and only grandchild, Ella Eddins, whom she protected fiercely, worried about endlessly and loved whole heartedly. She is also survived by her brothers, Tommy Ussery (wife Diana), Nick Ussery (wife Joy), her brother-in-law, Morris Ouzts, and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends whom she considered family.

It is safe to say that Norma loved her family more than anything else in the world... except maybe cold Michelob Ultra, room temperature Michelob Ultra, and a three day weekend at the beach. She taught her daughter and granddaughter to laugh through the tears and dance in the rain, and no amount of time with her would have been enough, but she did leave us with enough memories to last several lifetimes.

Per her wishes, the family will host a memorial Saturday, April 8th, at 2:00 p.m., at Norma’s home on 5th Avenue.
