Michael “Mike” Eldridge Yerby, 69, of Lee County, GA, passed away at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family and loved ones on Thursday, November 9, 2023. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 13, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Friendship Baptist Church of Leesburg. Interment will follow to Crown Hill Cemetery. Rev. Mark Spraggins will officiate.
Born on April 12, 1954, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Mike was the son of the late Freddy and Eva Nell Yerby. From a young age, he demonstrated a strong work ethic and a passion for helping others. These traits would guide him throughout his life and contribute to his success as a business owner. He was the owner and CEO of The Staffing People, where he made a significant impact in his career.
Mike was an active member of Friendship Baptist Church in Lee County. He found solace in his faith and cherished the time spent worshiping with his church family. Additionally, he was a member of the Elks Lodge #713 and the National Rifle Association (NRA). His involvement in these organizations allowed him to connect with others who shared similar interests and values.
One particular interest that brought Mike joy was his membership in The Artesian Car Club. He had a deep appreciation for muscle cars that exuded power and speed. Owning muscle cars became one of his greatest passions. Another passion that brought immense fulfillment to Mike's life was singing in a Quartet called Sounds of Faith.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Sandra Yerby and daughter-in-law Margaret Yerby.
Survivors include his wife, Allison Yerby, Lee Co. children, Christopher Michael Yerby (Desiree), Lee Co. William Travis Yerby (Elena), Poulan, GA, stepdaughters Melissa Jacobs (Dale), Lyndsey Mossbarger (David), all of Ellaville Ga, Christian White, Lee Co. and seventeen grandchildren, his sister Denise Foster (Charles) of The Villas, Florida.
The family will receive friends Sunday, November 12, 2023 at Mathews Funeral Home from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
