Marvin Lamar Parker,82, of Lee County, GA, died July 27, 2024 at his residence, 104 Stewart Court, Leesburg, Ga (as he lived with his daughter). He was surrounded by his children and he went to be with the Lord peacefully. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Mathews Funeral Home. Pastor Brett Peavy will officiate. Interment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery.
Marvin was born in Quincy, FL on January 23, 1942 to Robert and Ruby Parker, Jr. His father was a sharecropper and they moved often, but he lived most of childhood in Thomasville, GA. and graduated from Dublin High School. At 18 years of age he hitchhiked to Albany, GA to work at Coats and Clark. Marvin started as a janitor working his way up and retired at the Personnel Manager in 1983. During his time at Coates and Clark, he was instrumental in the upstart of the Coats and Clark facility in Douglas, GA.
In 1984 Marvin opened Parker Security and Investigations which he operated until his retirement in 2021. He was active in his community and was a former EMT Instructor, member and Past President of Albany Kiwanis Club and enjoyed Scuba Diving. He was in Civil Service, and over the American Red Cross in South Georgia for many years, and he served as President of the Boys and Girls Club and was very active. “And he always stated that it was very important to give back to the community” In addition to his parents, Marvin was preceded in death by two brothers, Willie Parker and Ralph Parker, a step-daughter Alisha Hicks, and two grandchildren, Shelly Marie Harrell and Greg “Bubba” Harrell, Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Dorene Smith Parker of Lee County, GA, his children, Lennie (Steve) Redmon of Lee County, GA, Jacquelyn (Donald) Moore of Warwick, GA, Tina (Greg) Harrell of Nichols, GA, Marvin Lamar (Rhonda) Parker, Jr and Presley Parker all of Lee County, GA, the mother of his children, Jacquelyn Wallace of Worth County, GA, his siblings, Charles (Mary) Parker of Worth County, GA, Robert Parker of Nichols, GA, Joe Parker of Albany, GA, Bobby (Debbie) Parker of Douglas, GA and Debbie Reynolds of Albany, GA, thirteen grandchildren, thirty four great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm before the service at Mathews Funeral Home.
