Martha Elizabeth Nicholson

Martha Elizabeth Nicholson, 88, of Albany, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2026 at her residence. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday May 13, 2026 at Mathews Funeral Home at 2:00 PM. Graveside service will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery. Mr. Nicholas Barry and Rev. Debbie Cone will officiate.

Born on December 17, 1937, in Macon, Georgia, to the late Clarence Preston and Florine Smith LeSuer. Martha made Albany her home in later years, where she was surrounded by family and cherished friends. She worked with the Dougherty County Public Library system for many years. Martha loved the Atlanta Braves, playing computer games late into the night, and spending time with "Papa Bear" (Leon). She was a loyal member of Avalon Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Wilburn Nicholson.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Tony Hanson of Leesburg; her sister and brother-in-law, Claire and Bob Bagwell of Buford, Georgia. Martha’s grandchildren, Karli Barry Blackburn and her husband Wesley of Columbus, Georgia; Nicholas Barry and his wife, Holly of Chicago, Illinois; and Keith Hanson of Charleston, South Carolina. She was also a proud great-grandmother to Bradley and Elliot Blackburn and Preston Barry.

A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
