Martha Emogene Howard Adkison

Martha Emogene Howard Adkison, 89 of Albany, GA, peacefully passed away Sunday morning, August 16, 2026 surrounded by family at her home. She had struggled the last four years with severe Dementia and Parkinson's.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, August 19, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Byne Memorial Baptist Church. Rev. Mark Jackson and Rev. Charlie Brown will officiate. Interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery, 2245 Bethel Road, Sycamore, GA, 31790

Emogene was born February 22, 1937 to James (Jim) William Howard and Cora Lee Howard of Sycamore, GA After high school she met the love of her life, James Hansel Adkison and they were married on June 11, 1955.

Once married the newly weds moved to Albany, GA where she accepted a position at the Marine Corps Logistics Base where she became the supervisor of the Contract Division, where she was known as Martha, She was with the Marine Base fot thirty seven years from which she retired.

In 1960 Emogene and her husband built their home which has remained as their residence while giving birth to their only daughter, Sheila Justice Adkison in 1968, Sheila was their only child who was married in 1989 and blesssed them with their granddaughter, Jennifer Justice.

Emogene was a longtime member of Byne Memorials Baptist Church in Albany, GA. She was very active in the church, worked with the youth for many years, and also taught Sunday School for many years. She was very active in the Albany Exchange Club, where her husband. Hansel was a long time member.

Those left to cherish Martha Emogene Adkison's memory include her daughter, Sheila Adkison, her granddaughter. Jennifer Justice, several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Emogene is preceded in death by her loving husband of sixty six years, James Hansel Adkison, parents, Jim and Cora Lee Howard, three brothers, Barney Howard, Sr. (Christine) ( Dorothy),  Melvin Howard (Vera), Aldene Howard (Junie) and two sisters, Vera Howard Owen (Sam) and Evelyn Howard Grant (Tom) .

The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 18, 2026 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home.
