Marjorie W. Childree, formerly of Albany, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, February 18, at her residence at Woodleaf Senior Care in Thomasville. Mrs. Childree was born in Blakely, Early County Georgia to the parents of Mr. and Mrs. John Council Weaver. Marjorie Eva Weaver married Edward M. Childree on February 12, 1950, and they enjoyed 56 years together. After a career in the Air Force, the Childrees moved to Albany in 1961 with their three children.

Mrs. Childree resided in Albany for 45 years where she retired from the City of Albany and was active at Sherwood Baptist Church as a choir member, Sunday school teacher, and held other various positions. Marjorie displayed a strong faith, which was evidenced by all those who knew her. She was a devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Marjorie had a deep love and gift for music, which she shared with her church and family. One of her favorite hymns was “The Longer I Serve Him the Sweeter He Grows.” She also wrote a hymn entitled “God Gave Me Life”.

In 2016 Mrs. Childree moved to Thomasville, Georgia where she enjoyed her remaining years at Woodleaf Senior Care. Marjorie was a trivia buff and enjoyed many games and activities with her friends at Woodleaf.

Mrs. Childree is survived by her three children: Gail C. Greene of Cairo, Edward Mangham (Debbie) Childree of Smyrna, GA, and Mark Jennings (Cecilia) of Cairo, GA. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren: Lynley Carraway (Keith), of Cairo, Amy Mercer (Jason) of Thomasville, GA, Aaron Childree of Smyrna, Russell Childree of Washington, D.C., Kyle Childree of Atlanta, Jennings and Asa Childree of Cairo; six great-grandchildren: Eva Grace, JW, and Virginia Knight of Cairo, Pace, Landri, and Harris Mercer of Thomasville.

Mrs. Childree was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers, five sisters, and sons-in-law Larry Harrell and Rocky Greene.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 14, at 11 a.m. at Mathews Funeral Home, Albany, GA. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given in Mrs. Childree’s memory to Sherwood Baptist Church, 2201 Whispering Pines Rd., Albany, Georgia 31707 or Hospice of Southwest GA, 114A Mimosa Dr., Thomasville, Georgia 31792.
