Margaret Joan Seay

Margaret Joan Seay, 90, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2025 at her residence. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm on Friday, October 3, 2025 at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Chuck Knight will officiate. Interment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery.

Joan was a native of Fairmont, WV, born to Gerald and Marion Kendrick. She grew up in Fairmont and graduated from High School and after High School received her Nursing Degree. She met her late husband, Col. Donald R. Seay in 1953 and they married in 1955. Donald served in the United States Marine Corps and they moved a lot before coming to Albany, GA in 1970. Over her twenty-year career, Joan was employed as House Supervisor for Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, served as The Occupational Health Nurse at Snack Master and retired from Miller Brewing Company as The Health and Medical Services Administrator (OHN). Joan was a member of Porterfield Methodist Church and The Seeker’s Sunday School Class. She had a passion for golf and was a member of Doublegate Country Club.

Joan was very active in her Albany Community, serving as the Membership Chairperson for The Albany Little Theatre, Board Member, Vice President and President of The American Heart Association, Dougherty County Unit, Chairperson for The American Cancer Society, Dougherty/Lee Unit and The Albany Chamber of Commerce Ambassador Task force. Joan also served as Chairperson of The American Association of Occupational Health Nurses, served on The Clean Community Commission, was Chairperson of The Advisory Council of The Albany/ Dougherty County Joint HIV/AIDS Task Force.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents her husband Col. Donald R. Seay, and her younger brother Jerry Kendrick. 

Joan is survived by her children Jan Seay, Tomas Seay, granddaughter Tiffany Seay and great-granddaughter, Alona Butler.

The family will receive friends Friday from 12:00 noon until 1:00 pm at Mathews Funeral Home.
