The graveside funeral services for Marcelle Chapman Beck of Albany will be held Thursday at 11:00 AM at Morgan Methodist Church Cemetery in Morgan, Georgia. Minister Doug Haught and Minister Forrest Chapman will officiate. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Mathews Funeral Home.

Marcelle was born on October 1, 1919 in Moultrie, Georgia, as the third of five daughters born to H.T. and Clara Chapman. In 1929 her family moved to Dawson where Marcelle grew up as a dedicated member and supporter of the Beattie Road Church of Christ.

She married W.C. Beck July 19, 1940 and settled in Albany where they raised two children and were active members of the community. Marcelle was a member of the Charity League and Palmyra Heights Garden Club. Always known as a wonderful cook, in 1962 she won a national award from the state of Maryland for a mincemeat chicken recipe. Later she wrote a cookbook, From Bubba's Kitchen" used by many today in the south.

She spent much of her energy in support of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren who called her Bubba". Many of them were with her in 2009 as she celebrated her 90th birthday.

She is survived by a daughter Cyrilla Hopkins of Dallas, TX; a son, Walter Beck and his wife, Melody of Albany, GA and grandchildren: Sydney Cannon of Dallas, TX, Will Hall of Houston, TX, Laura and Jessica Beck of Athens, GA, Hannah Beck of Albany, GA and great-grandchildren: Sam and Hank Cannon of Dallas, TX, Olivia Mitchell of Athens, GA and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, W. Cyril Beck.

She was characterized by the gentle grace of a southern lady of impeccable appearance who was recognized by all who knew her for her love of family and faith in God.

The family would like to extend a special remembrance and thank you to her dedicated care givers, Margaret Bob, Madie Davis and Gloria Seay.

The family will be at the residence of Walter and Melody Beck, 200 Byron Ridge Drive, Albany, GA 31721.
