Lucius Edgar “Ed” Scott passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at Phoebe Putney Hospital after a short illness. A private family service will be held at a later date.

A native of Moultrie, GA, Ed was the third child of Alma Prevatte and Lucius Edgar Scott. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Joanne Scott and Faye Scott Bray. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jane Hill Scott from Sasser, GA; his daughter Lacy Scott Apperson and her husband John of Knoxville, TN; his son James Hill Scott of Smyrna, GA; his four grandchildren, Margaret and Jack Apperson and Charlie and Henry Scott; nephews John and Peter Bray; niece Laura Bray White; and numerous cousins.

After graduating from Moultrie High School in 1960, Ed received a degree in Industrial Management from Georgia Tech. Following graduation, he went to work for the Union Oil Company of California and after two years took a leave of absence to attend Navy Officer Candidate School in Rhode Island. He served as a lieutenant in the Navy with tours of duty in Vietnam and Spain. The buttoned-up Navy sensibility really stuck with him, as he was always perfectly groomed, bed made and even used his electric shaver in the hospital the morning he died.

After completing his military commitment, he returned to Unocal where he worked until his retirement 38 years later. Ed and Jane lived in many places around the U.S. during his tenure at Unocal, but most of his career was in Los Angeles.

He spent his last year of life doing what he loves best: working with Matthew Davis as Chief Operating Officer for the Davis Company in Albany, GA. Jane and Ed split their time between Albany, GA and Highlands, NC.

Outside of work, golf was Ed’s passion. He enjoyed many years as a member of Highlands Country Club, Highlands, NC; Annandale Gold Club, Pasadena, CA; Country Club of the Rockies, Edwards, CO; Memphis Country Club, Memphis, TN; La Quinta Country Club, La Quinta, CA; and Doublegate Country Club, Albany, GA.

Ed loved fishing, hunting, making furniture, cooking and always had multiple projects underway (some more successful than others, plumbing was not his strength). He loved honeybuns, Groom and Clean, Mennen Skin Bracer, Carnation Instant Breakfast, and was a stickler for proper napkin etiquette. He was loved and will be missed.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trauma and Critical Care Tower Campaign, c/o Phoebe Foundation, PO Box 3770, Albany, GA  31706.
