Linda Estelle Giles, 82, of Albany, GA, passed away Friday, December 23, 2022. Graveside funeral services will be conducted Monday, January 2, 2023 at 11:00 am at Crown Hill Cemetery. Rev. Mark Jackson will officiate.
Linda was born in Albany, GA to the late Hugh Carlton Giles and Clara Estelle Gleaton Giles. Linda graduated Albany High School in 1958 where she was a member of several clubs and played 4 years of basketball, lettering three years. She attended Georgia Southwestern College and went on to get her degree from the Women’s College of Georgia.
She taught high school at Dougherty High in Albany as well as schools in Macon and Warner Robins. Linda later made a career change which led her to Calhoun Office Supply where she was a lead salesperson for many years. She retired in 2010 which gave her the opportunity to pursue her first love, animals. Linda was past-president of the Warner Robins Humane Society and after retiring spent most of her time feeding and caring for abandoned dogs and cats.
Linda was a lifelong, active member of Byne Memorial Baptist Church; she taught 6th grade Sunday school class, Girls in Action, Vacation Bible School, and Whiz Kids. She was a dedicated member of the Faith Sunday school class and volunteered year-round wherever needed in services including prayer ministry and visiting shut-ins. She also enjoyed the outdoors and camping.
Linda was preceded in death by siblings, Jo Ann Corrigan and Hugh Carlton Giles, Jr. and is survived by her brother, Odie Giles, Albany, GA, nieces, Connie C. Stack, Orange Park, FL, Karen Avery, Orange Park, FL, nephews, Troy Lamar Giles, Maxwell, FL, Chip Giles, LaGrange, GA, Chris Giles, Leesburg, GA, Kelly Scott Giles, Leesburg, GA, great-niece and great-nephew, Heather Avery, Jacksonville, FL and Tyler Aver, Jacksonville, FL.
In addition to family, Linda leaves behind two dogs, Bo and Zuzu, and three close friends, Laurie Jenkins, Joyce Gaines, and Glenda Eubanks Brown.
In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial donations in memory of Linda Estelle Giles, to the Albany Humane Society 1705 W. Oakridge Dr., Albany, GA 31707 or to Byne Memorial Baptist Church 2832 Ledo Rd., Albany, GA 31707
The family will receive friends following the graveside services.
