Leonard Alton Lane

Leonard "Alton" Lane, 66, of Albany, GA passed away Monday, July 13, 2026. Graveside funeral services will be conducted Saturday, July 18, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Crown Hill Cemetery.

Alton loved his meat and potatoes cooked any which way. He as a result gained the nickname, Spud, which he grinned fondly at each mention. He enjoyed music and played percussion with the stage band at Albany High School and graduated in 1978. Alton thoroughly enjoyed sports. He was an avid Falcons, Braves, and UGA fan. He also enjoyed tennis, watching professional tournaments and playing in a local USTA league.

He moved to the country and helped Dad take care of the horses. Later in his life he battled Parkinson’s disease and found a joy in singing his favorite songs from special occasions or a favorite artist. He was patriotic, enjoyed celebrating National holidays, and singing songs that honored our country.

We loved your sense of humor, infectious smile, and wonderful personality. We always felt uplifted after listening to and visiting with you and will miss you very very much.

Alton was preceded in death by his parents, Alton Lloyd Lane and Joyce Latrelle Law Lane and brothers-in-laws, Tommy Phillips and Mike Newell.

Survivors include his siblings, Sheryl Lane Phillips, Tallahassee, FL, Mary Newell, Albany, GA., Sonia Lane Middlebrooks, Canton, GA, nieces and nephews, Matthew Peters, Allison Peters and husband Vijay Sridhar, Brian Middlebrooks (Katie), Drew Middlebrooks (Amanda), Diane Middlebrooks, great niece Vivienne Middlebrooks, great nephew Wylder Middlebrooks, special aunt, Doris Beall, uncle Max Lane and aunt Inez Ledden.
