Leonard "Buzzy" Horne

Leonard E. “Buzzy” Horne, Jr., 83, of Albany, GA, died Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.  Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 6, 2024 at Mathews Funeral Home.  Rev. Hal Pinson will officiate.  Interment will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery with Masonic Rites, Military Honors and The Last Call by The Albany Fire Department.

Buzzy was born on February 19, 1940 in New Bern, NC to Leonard and Eleanor Horne.  After school, he joined the United States Marine Corps, was transferred to Albany, GA and served in Vietnam. While in Albany, he met Robbie Willis at Calvary Baptist Church.  They fell in love and married in 1964.  Buzzy loved to fish and hunt at his place in Georgetown, had a green thumb and kept a garden as long as he was able.

Buzzy began working at J and J Furniture where he learned Appliance Repair, and became the owner of Horne's Appliance Repair for fifty years.  He joined the Albany Fire Department and was employed for twenty-eight years and retired as a Driver (AOE). Buzzy was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and attended Byne Memorial Baptist Church.  He was a member of Triangle Lodge # 708 F&AM and Order of The Eastern Star, Crape Myrtle Chapter #163.  With Eastern Star, Buzzy served in the official capacity of District Grand Deputy and Grand Representative to Mexico.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Cindy Horne in 2021, and sisters, Lorraine Gordon and Esther Joyner.

Survivors include his wife of sixty years, Robbie Horne, a son, Leonard “Len” (Christy) Horne, his grandchildren, Steven Horne, Joshua Horne and Jerrica Horne, his brother, Larry (Joan) Horne, his brothers-in-law, James Joyner, Jack Willis and John (Kathy) Willis, and lots of nieces and nephews. 

The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until 11:00 am Saturday before the service at Mathews Funeral Home.
