Leon M. Mitchell, Jr.

Leon Monroe Mitchell, Jr., 81, of Albany, GA died Friday, March 8, 2019 at his residence. Memorial services will be conducted Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home.

Born in Albany, GA and a life-long resident, Mr. Mitchell was retired from the Dougherty Co. Sheriff’s Department and was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge # 1285. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Mitchell was preceded in death by his parents, Leon Monroe Mitchell and Mary Kersey Hall, a son, Joey Mitchell, a daughter, Deborah Mitchell, a step-son, Brent Pierce and a grandson, Jody C. Mitchell.

Survivors include his wife, Cynthia Darby Mitchell, Albany, GA, a son Donnie Mitchell (Debbie), Leesburg, GA, a daughter, Michele Harrison, Crawfordville, FL, a step-son, Jack Allen Pierce (Sharon), Leesburg, GA, a step-daughter, Jacquelin Snair, Atlanta, GA, two sisters, Nydira Peugh, Milledgeville, GA, Gail Mitchell, Albany, GA, nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers those desiring may make memorials in memory of Leon M. Mitchell, Jr. to the Georgia Sheriff's Boys Ranch, 5671 GA. Highway 122-E, Hahira, GA, 31632 or the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge # 1285, 407 Philema Road, Albany, GA, 31701.

The family will receive friends following the services at the funeral home.
