Joyce Avery Brooks

Albany, GA - Joyce Avery Brooks, 90, died at her home May 5, 2022. She was born April 23, 1932, in Decatur County, Georgia, to Billy and Effie Clenney Avery.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Haywood Brooks, and granddaughter, Heather Lauren Griffin. She is survived by two daughters, Karen Cox and Charlotte Hazen (Kevin); three grandchildren, Kristen Burchfield (Jason), Brooke Hawk (Thad), and Erick Hazen (Alyssa); and nine great-grandchildren.

Joyce, or Grandma Joyce as many knew her, lived life to the fullest with a hint of silliness and an abundance of laughter. She had a servant’s heart, and gave selflessly to her family, church, and friends. Joyce loved to play the piano, and her talent was enjoyed by everyone who knew her. Her homemade biscuits were the best ever made! Her faith was her treasure, and knowing that she is singing with Jesus brings her family and friends immeasurable peace.

Visitation will be at Mathews Funeral Home, 3206 Gillionville Rd., Albany, GA 31721 on Sunday, May 8, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.  Funeral Service will be held Monday, May 9, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Move Christian Church, 1501 Whispering Pines Rd., Albany, GA 31707. Pastors Shane Mullins and Freddie Wellborn will be officiating. Private graveside service will be at Oak Grove Christian Church in Decatur County.
