John Noel Finnicum, 82, of Albany, GA, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2026 at his residence. A memorial service will be conducted at Mathews Funeral Home with a time to be announced. Military Honors will be performed by The United States Air Force and the American Legion Honor Guard. Interment will be at Andersonville National Cemetery.
Mr. Finnicum was born on February 18, 1944 in Galesburg, IL to the late Emory and Catherine Finnicum. He was raised in Cambridge, IL and graduated from Cambridge High School where he was on the basketball team. After high school, he joined the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War and attained the rank of Captain. He developed a love for the game of golf in high school and remained an avid golfer throughout his life.
Mr. Finnicum graduated from Southern Illinois University and received his Masters from The University of Arkansas. He moved to Albany, GA in 1977 and was employed by M&M Mars. He was later employed as a over the road truck driver and authored a book, “Home On The Road”. He attended Travelers Rest Baptist Church in Newton, GA. Mr. Finnicum was preceded in death by a sister, Joan Charlton and brother, Terry Finnicum and three step-sons, Harvey “Bo” Henderson, Robert Gene Henderson, and Sammy Will Brown.
Survivors include his wife, Gene Finnicum of Albany, GA; his children, Darrel (Ashley) Finnicum of Lee County, GA; and Christopher (Dyan) of Hoschton, GA; his siblings, Tom Finnicum of Newark, DE; and Jane (Russ) Minard of Sterling, IL; his grandchildren, Shelby Everett, Savannah (Landen) Schultz, Stephanie Everett, Thad Finnicum, and Joseph Everett; his great grandchildren Blakelee Schultz and Beau Schultz, Gene’s grandchildren, Shanna Watson, Brian Watson, Azleia Waston and Gene’s great-great-grandson, Stinson Watson.
