Joe Long Smith

Joe Long Smith, age 83, of Sylvester, Georgia, passed away on December 20, 2025 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. At this time, arrangements are private.

Joe was born on November 6,1942 in Agricola, Mississippi to the late Thomas and Addie Magnolia Long Smith. Later made his home in Sylvester, Georgia where he worked as a carpenter, known for his strong work ethic and his ability to build with his hands and heart. He took pride in his craft and the honest work he did for others.

He is survived by his two brothers Henry Smith of Moultrie GA and John Smith of Long Beach MS. Joe was a devoted father and loved his children deeply: Lynn Smith, Lora Halcomb, Lena Prince(John), Bobby Barney(Kim) and Kristy Barney, 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by 7 brothers: James, Thomas(Junior), Paul, Ed(Doc), Charles(Hoss), Howard and Carl and 3 sisters: Margaret Smith, Louise Fletcher and Eva Pearl Lacey, daughter Lisa Smith and grandson Britt Sargent.
