Joe Oliver Miller

Joe Oliver Miller, 85, of Albany, GA formerly of Ft. Gaines, GA, died February 1, 2023 at the Willson Hospice House.  Funeral services will be held Saturday at 3:00 pm at Mathews Funeral Home.  Rev. Phil Thomas will officiate.  Interment will be held in Rockwell, NC.

Mr. Miller was born in Rockwell, NC on September 21, 1937 to John and Imogene Miller.  He grew up in Rockwell and graduated from Mt. Pisgah Academy in Candler, NC.  In his younger years, he worked in security for Charlotte Motor Speedway and had a long career with General Motors Corporation. He moved to Albany, GA in 1980 and lived at the lake in Ft. Gaines, GA for twenty five years, where he was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church.  Mr. Miller returned to Albany, GA in 2019.

He enjoyed playing baseball and played in the minor leagues and was offered a contract with the St. Louis Cardinals.  He was a Duke Blue Devil Basketball fan and his favorite pastime was fishing with his friends and family, deer hunting and turkey hunting when he was able.

Survivors include his wife, Janice “Necy” Miller of Albany, GA, his children, Debbie (Joey) Barrier, Joe O. (Rhonda)  Miller, Jr. and David S. Miller all of Salisbury, NC, Lee (Jina) Miller of Lee County, GA and Alan (Theresa) Miller of Albany, GA, his grandchildren, Andrew (Carmen) Barrier, Kyle (Brittany) Barrier, Lindsey (Matt) Hiatt, Jocelyn Miller, Tristan Miller, Matthew (Lauren) Miller, Brandon (Hannah), Melissa (Matt) Stevenson, Amanda (Daniel) Coleman, Matt Lamb and Megan Lamb and his great-grandchildren, Addison, Callie, Jordan, Levi, Paige, Kole, Maverick, Thomas and Aubrey.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm at Mathews Funeral Home.
