Joan Alberta Harris

Joan A. Harris, 84, of Albany, GA died Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at Wilson Hospice House after a short illness. Funeral services will be held Friday at 3:00 PM at Mathews Funeral Home. Dr. William A. (Butch) Knight will officiate. Interment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery.

A native of Atlanta, GA, Mrs. Harris had resided in Albany, GA since 1968 moving from Savannah, GA. She was a homemaker and a member of The First Baptist Church of Albany. Mrs. Harris helped Dr. Thomas Mitchum open his office and was formerly employed with the Internal Revenue Service. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam B. Harris and a grandson, Tyler R. Harris.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Suzanne and John Thomas of Albany, GA, a son and his wife, Kelly and Sandy Harris of Peachtree City, GA, a sister and her husband, Rhonette and Bill Coleman of Milledgeville, GA, three grandchildren, Bradley Harris of Tifton, GA, Merridith Thomas of Atlanta, GA and Melanie Geiszler and her husband, Scott of Boston, MA, a special caretaker, Bobbie Edwards of Albany, GA and her dog, Minnie Rho Rho.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM Friday before the funeral service.
