Jimmy Julius Bowles, Sr.

 Jimmy Julius Bowles, Sr., 85, of Albany, GA, passed away Thursday, October 12, 2023 at his residence.  Private family services will be held at the Graham Angus Farm.

Jimmy was born in Sale City, GA to Wilborn and Sally Will Bowles.  His family soon moved to Lee County, GA, where Jimmy grew up on Fowl Town Farms.  He graduated from Lee County High School in 1956 and attended Abraham Baldwin College.  Jimmy married Dolores Justice in 1957, who he had met when she was 13 years old while swimming at the Blue Hole on Kinchafoonee Creek. 

 

Jimmy returned to Lee County and was employed with Haley Farms and then spent the rest of his career at Graham Angus Farm.  He retired as Farm Manager, but continued to serve as Farm Emeritus and oversee the timber operations.  Jimmy was a member of The Georgia Cattleman’s Association and was a true outdoorsman, hunting deer, dove and quail, but especially loved turkey hunting. 

 

He was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy J. Bowles, Jr. and two grandsons, Joshua Bowles and Travis Bowles.  Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Dolores Justice Bowles of Albany, GA, a son, Steve (Wanda) Bowles of Albany, GA, his grandchildren, Jay (Tammy) Bowles and B.J. (Tiffany) Bowles and Jason (Shannon) Bowles all of Lee County, GA, Shannon (Rusty) Chapman of Cuthbert, GA and his great-grandchildren, Blakelyn Bowles, Harrison Strickland, Anna Claire Strickland, Ella Brown, Rylend Crain, Maya Crain, Gauge Bowles, Hayzlie Bowles, Addylie Bowles and Beckett Thompson, Karley Chapman and Kaitlyn Chapman.
