James Mell Tippins, 77, of Albany, GA, died December 3, 2022 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 9, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Steve Eidson and Rev. Byron Miller will officiate. A private interment will be held at Crown Hill Cemetery at a later date.
Mell was born in Savannah, GA on September 7, 1945 to Maurice (Cel) and Hortense Tippins. He graduated from Savannah High School in 1964 and then received his Batchelor’s Degree in Business from The University of Georgia in 1968.
Mell moved to Albany, GA in 1974 from Savannah, GA and was employed with Warner-Lambert as a sales representative and was a tree farmer. He later opened and operated Michael’s Bar-B-Que from 1991 until 2018. Mell was a member of Move Christian Church, loved to read, was a life long Georgia Bulldog Fan and former avid water skier. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Alice Tippins Mulford and a granddaughter, Lily Rayne Tippins.
Survivors include his wife, Pam Tippins of Albany, GA, his children, Jim (Dani) Tippins of Albany, GA, Mark (Mindi) Tippins of Salt Lake City, UT and Dawn (Todd Grace) Tippins of Lee County, GA, fourteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm Friday at Mathews Funeral Home.
