James Kelly Sexton, 98, of Lee County, GA., died Thursday, July 17, 2025 at his residence. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Mathews Funeral Home with military honors. Interment will follow at Floral Memory Gardens. Rev. Steve Hood will officiate.
James was born in Huntsville, TN to the late Kelsey and Flora Sexton. He served his country in the United States Army and then the United States Air Force where he retired after twenty-seven years of service. After retiring from military service, he worked as a technician with Barber Equipment Company and retired from Darsey Oil Company. He was a member of the Retired Air Force Sergeants Association, the American Legion Post 30, Triangle Lodge 708 F&A.M. and volunteered with Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital Ramp Builders.
He is preceded in death by his wife Myrtle Sexton, two children, Patricia Ford and James Curtis Sexton, two great grandchildren, Robbie Walker and Aurora Dawson, a great great grandchild, Sage Pate and his second wife Georgetta Sexton.
Survivors include his children, Jimmy Sexton (Cynthia), Mickie Sexton Rogers (Rusty), Barbara Ann Kates and Donald Sexton (Tracey), seventeen grandchildren, twenty-three great- grandchildren, and one great great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
