James "Jim" Warren Vaught


James Warren “Jim” Vaught, (Lt. Col, USMC, Ret.), 75, of Albany, GA, died April 28, 2025 at his residence. Military Honors will be performed at 5:30 pm at Mathews Funeral Home on Friday, May 2, 2025 with a visitation to follow until 7:30 pm.

Jim was born at Camp Lejeune, NC on September 3, 1949 to Major General F.W. and Bonnie Vaught. He and his siblings grew up all around the country and the world. Jim graduated from Fallbrook High School and San Diego State University. He married his sweetheart, Cathy, and joined the United States Marine Corps. During his career, in which he attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, Jim served in Desert Storm and Desert Shield and was transferred to Albany, GA in 1992 to serve his last two tours at the Marine Corps Logistic Base. He made Albany his home. He enjoyed riding his Harley, reading and spending time with family. 

Jim was employed with The Albany Chamber of Commerce in various programs, served as a fundraiser for the American Red Cross and then was employed as Stormwater Management Coordinator with Dougherty County and he wrote the pre-disaster mitigation plan. Jim continued his career with The Albany Fire Department as Deputy Director of Emergency Management retiring in 2015.Jim was preceded in death by his son, Brice James (B.J.) Vaught. Survivors include his wife, Catherine “Cathy” Vaught of Albany, GA, his daughter, Michelle Vaught Rash (Justin) of Lee County, GA, two brothers, Kirk Vaught (Beth) of Mt. Dora, FL and Donn Vaught (Lori) of Greenville, TN and two grandchildren, Savannah Rash and Hudson Rash.
