James Curtis Gleaton, 92, of Albany, Georgia, passed away peacefully at his residence on Sunday, July 12, 2026, with his loving family by his side. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 15th, 2026 at 11:00 am at Mathews Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Live Oak Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Charlie Brown will officiate.
Mr. Gleaton was born on May 24, 1934, in Baker County, Georgia, to the late James T. and Lavern Sanders Gleaton. He was a faithful member of Byne Memorial Baptist Church and dedicated over 30 years of service to the State of Georgia, retiring as Deputy Director of Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
In 1990, Curtis was inducted into the Brewton Parker College National Alumni Society Athletic Hall of Fame in honor of his memorable basketball career, which consisted of a scholarship to the University of Georgia, where he was captain of the team. Above all, Curtis was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He cherished the time spent with his family, which included many hunting trips, sporting events, and stories about the “good ol’ days”.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 70 years, Geraldine “Jerri” Gleaton of Albany; his daughter, Debbie Stahl (Mark) of Hobe Sound, Florida; his son, Curt Gleaton of Leesburg; his grandchildren, Richard Stahl, Michael Stahl, Mallory Gleaton, and Ryan Gleaton; and his great-grandchildren, Kaylee Stahl, Addison Stahl, Ellie Stahl, and Lilly Stahl.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 15, 2026 at Mathews Funeral Home from 10:00 am until the funeral hour.
