James Edgar Dampier, 81, of Leesburg, GA passed away, Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at Willson Hospice House. Memorial services will be conducted Saturday, April 13, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home.
James will be missed by many. He never met a stranger, no matter where he went. James was a social butterfly. He loved to talk with everyone. He was involved early on in the ROTC, Macon, GA. He was the Sgt. of Arms in Sedarmoc Fraternity, Lanier High School, Macon, Ga. James got his nick name, Damp Daddy from his fraternity brothers.
James was an avid motorcycle rider. Both in competition riding and pleasure riding. His racing number and favorite number was #3. He went to Daytona Bike Week every year for sixty three years. He was a member of the Gold Wing Riders Association and the Harley Road Riders Association. He even worked for Yamaha Motors Corp. for many years, he loved motorcycles so much.
James moved to Florida in 1979, to start a tour guide magazine, The West Florida Palm. James took care of all the add sales, photography and publication. He flew to Japan with the artwork for printing, which was its own adventure in itself.
James was an adventure seeker. He had a scuba diving license; he was a competition gun shooter for many years. He loved to travel. In 2001, James obtained his private pilot’s license. He was a member of the EAA 354 Flying Club.
In 1984, James started Construction Fasteners in Albany, GA and was the owner/operator until he retired in 2014.
James enjoyed meeting every morning with his buddies at the McDonalds/Burger King Breakfast Club.
James loved his daughter, Vondalyn, beyond measure and his grandchildren. To everyone he was James, to her, he was Dad.
James was a wonderful man, tough at times, but he had a heart of gold for his family and friends. He will be missed by all.
The family wishes to thank Willson Hospice House, all the nurses and CNA’s who took wonderful care of James in his last days. All the family and dear friends for their visits, support, love and prayers.
