James Ernest (Ernie) Cook, 77 of Leary, GA passed away peacefully on May 1, 2026 at home after a brief battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 9th at 11:00 at Gillionville Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the atrium of the church at 10:00.
Ernie was born in Albany, Ga and raised in Leary. He spent most of his life working in agricultural parts. He worked for Massey Furgeson in Cuthbert for almost ten years before going to work at Albany Tractor Company, now known as Flint Ag and Turf. During his thirty-seven years at Albany Tractor, he was well known for his knowledge and ability to recall part numbers from memory. He was a numbers man and perfect for that job. Many farmers would wait in line for his assistance.
Ernie is preceded in death by his parents James E. (Dick) Cook and Ruth S. Cook and Carrie Brooks, daughter.
He is survived by his wife Judy Cook; children, Tammy (Brian) Deese, Mark (Dawn) Cook, Carla Frey and Alex Roggenbuch; grandchildren Sidney (Josh) Laing, Brandon Cook, Colby (Bentley) Deese, Rylee (Hunter) Wilkes, Jamie (Tyler) Aldridge, Sydney (Jacob) Sproul, Haley (Brandon) Davis, and Brandon (Savannah) Sartain. He is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren. His siblings are Gary Cook, Cindy (David) Craft and Mike Cook, brother-in-laws Bill (Chris) Rose and Melvin Rose, sister-in-laws Laura (Greg) Gongla, Claudia (Kevin) Kenny, and Rose (Keith) McAskin. He also leaves behind a number of nieces and nephews.
