James Otis Braswell, 80, of Albany, GA, died September 19, 2024 at The Willson Hospice House. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 23, 2024 at 11:00 am, at Bethel Baptist Church in Worth County, GA. Rev. Dan Story will officiate. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.
James was born in Sylvester, GA on September 28, 1943 to James T. Braswell and Isabell Doty. He grew up in Sylvester, GA and Albany, GA and graduated from Albany High School. James was a successful businessman owning several auto parts stores in Sylvester and Albany.
James was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Dougherty Lodge # 591 F& AM, was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of Hasan Shrine Center where he served on the Directors Staff. James was remarkable with a shotgun and was a member of Flint Skeet and Trap Club where he was honored with the Member of The Year in 1988. He won Georgia State Skeet Championship in 2001. James was a life member of the Georgia Skeet Shooting Association (GSSA) and was Rookie of The Year in 1989. He was inducted into GSSA Hall of Fame in 2011. He was also active in the National Skeet Shooting Association (NSSA). James loved to fish and work in his yard.
James was preceded in death by his parents, James T. Braswell and Isabell Doty and his grandparents, Joseph E. Braswell and Josephine Braswell.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen Hammack Braswell, daughter, Laura (Mark) Thompson of Lee County, grandchildren, Zachary Deese, Callie Sealy, Daniel Thompson, Sam Thompson, and great-grandchildren, Jaden Sealy, Ava Sealy, Case Sealy, Amelia Thompson and Collins Chapman.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 10:00 am until 11:00 am before the service at Bethel Baptist Church.
