Jackie "J.D." Darrell Halstead, Sr.

Jackie "J.D." Darrell Halstead, Sr. 81, of Lee Co., GA, died November 17, 2023 at Wynfield Park Health and Rehabilitation Center.  Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 21^st at 10:00 am at The First Baptist Church of Leesburg.  Rev. Josh Posey, Rev. Bobby Harrell and Rev. Douglas Halstead will officiate.  Committal services will be held at 3:00 pm at The Greenwood Cemetery in Cairo, GA.

Darrell was born in Cairo, GA on July 20, 1942 to Reuben and Bobbie Halstead.  He grew up there and graduated from Cairo High School in 1961 during high school he was an active member of the FFA and in 1959 he won Grand Champion in the calf show. Upon his high school graduation, he enlisted and served in the U. S. Army Reserves.  He married his High School sweetheart Wanda Sholar in June 1964 and they moved to Leesburg, GA in 1968 when he became the manager of ToLee Plantation. In 1987 they moved to Terrell Co. where he became manager of Tallassee Plantation which later became Abigail Plantation. He retired from Abigail Plantation in 2012 and he and Wanda moved to Leesburg.

Darrell enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, grilling and was a Georgia Bulldog and Atlanta Braves Fan.  He was very active in his community, serving as President and on The Board of Directors of the Lee County Farm Bureau. He was a member of The American Legion Post # 30. Darrell was a member of The First Baptist Church of Leesburg, where he attended the Jane Studdard Memorial Sunday School Class, served as a Deacon and was a member of various committees.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents Reuben and Bobbie Halstead, his brother David Halstead and grandson Justin Tomlin.

Survivors include the love of his life, his wife of fifty-nine years, Wanda Lee Sholar Halstead of Lee County, GA, his children, Jackie (Terrie) Halstead, Jr. of Leesburg, GA, Pam (Burt) Ferrell of Leesburg, GA and Stephen (Angi) Halstead of Albany, GA, a brother, Douglas (Joyce) Halstead of Thomasville, GA, his grandchildren, Christopher (Kaci) Ferrell of Lee County, GA, Jacob Ferrell of Lakeland, FL, Sam Ferrell of Columbus, GA, Jackie (Trey) Halstead III  and Daniel Halstead of Leesburg, GA, his great-grandchildren, Maci Tomlin and Emily Ferrell.

The family will receive friends on Monday, November 20th from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at First Baptist Church Leesburg.
