Hugh Bishop

It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of Hugh Dorsey Bishop (III) on Sunday, June 28, 2026 in Houston, TX at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital. Mr. Bishop was an Albany native, born in our own Phoebe Putney on August 31, 1962. A graveside funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 7, 2026 at 10:00 am at Oakview Cemetery in Albany, GA. All who knew him are welcome to attend. His brother, Rev. Robert Bishop, will officiate.

Hugh was the loving father of three wonderful children, Marshall N. Bishop of Richmond TX, Benjamin L. Bishop of Las Vegas Nevada and Julia Theora Bishop of Utah.

Mr. Bishop was a hard working teamster, a veteran, and beloved friend of many. Working for Republic Environmental Services was not his first choice of career but he did so with a measure of pride knowing he was providing for his family and that his work was essential to the community.

Hugh loved his country and honorably served in the Army Reserves demonstrating dedication, discipline, and a strong sense of duty. He was baptized at Saint Joseph’s Church in Albany as a child and he later belonged to the Apostolic Lighthouse Church in Pompano Beach Florida with his brother, Robert Bishop, where he was baptized and received the Baptism of the Spirit.

Outside of work he would enjoy playing his favorite table top games and made many friends from all walks of life and all over the world through his favorite hobby. He shared his passions with his children who will have many cherished memories to look back on. He was a curious man and accomplished academic. Mr. Bishop earned a bachelor's degree in kinesiology from UNLV.

Though not his major, Hugh's knowledge of military history was quite extensive it was only rivaled by his knowledge of his favorite Scifi and comic book characters. We cannot forget his love for sports. He was passionate about his Miami Dolphins and Las St. Vegas Golden Knights. He avidly followed the games of many major sports bringing much happiness and joy to his life.

He is survived by his three amazing children, his mother, Margaret Puente of Delray Beach, Florida, a dedicated brother, Robert J. Bishop of Coconut Creek Florida, and a long list of friends that can hardly be counted. They all mourn his loss and will miss him dearly. Though Hugh may be gone from this earth we won't forget him. We will hold our good memories of him close to our hearts. And as a man of deep faith we all know he will be waiting for us in heaven, Saving us a seat at the table.
