Horace Eugene "Gene" Drew, Jr.

Horace Eugene “Gene” Drew, Jr., 76, of Albany, GA, died Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at his residence.  Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 17, 2023 at 3:00 pm at Mathews Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the United States Air Force and The American Legion.

Gene was born on September 8, 1946 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL to the late Horace E. Drew, Sr. and Catherine Haynes Drew.  He was born into a Military family and moved from station to station with his family.  Gene graduated from Lincolnton High School in 1964 and joined the United States Air Force. After serving in Vietnam, Gene was stationed at Turner Field in Albany and met his future wife, Imogene Cohn who was employed at the Base.

They married in 1967 and Gene was employed with Mars Chocolate North America in Albany as an Inventory Analyst for twenty-eight years.  After his retirement, he was employed with the Albany Police Department for eight years.  Gene was a Baptist by faith and attended Crossroads Church.  He was a Coach with American Legion Post #30 Baseball Team and the American Legion Post # 282, Leesburg, GA.  Gene was a member of Stonebridge Country Club and served as assistant coach with the Albany State University National Title Teams.

Survivors include his wife, Imogene C. Drew of Albany, GA, his children, Jon (Tonya) Drew of Acworth, GA and Wendy Drew Palmer of Rockmart, GA, his siblings, Mary Kaye (Curtis) Hall of Washington, GA and Tommy (Paula) Drew of Lincolnton, GA and his grandchildren, Benjamin “Ben” Palmer of Rockmart, GA, Carley Drew and Cameron “Cam” Drew both of Acworth, GA.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm at Mathews Funeral Home.
