Hiram H. Peeler, 86, of Dawson, Georgia, passed away on June 29, 2024, at the Willson Hospice House surrounded by his loving family. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at Dawson United Methodist Church at 11:00 AM. A private family interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Rev. Mike Davis, and Rev. Douglas Walker will officiate.

He was born on December 6, 1937, in Athens, GA. to the late George Marshall Peeler and Sibyl Self Peeler, and was raised by his father and his late paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. O.H. Peeler. Hiram led a fulfilling life dedicated to service and family. Hiram served his country as a member of the Army National Guard. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia, earning a BS in Forestry in 1960. While attending the University of Georgia he met Beverly, and the two later married on June 19, 1960 at Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church in Savannah, GA. 

In 1972, they moved to Dawson, GA from Waycross, GA for him to continue the operation of RD Smith Insurance Agency which he was the owner and operator of for over forty years. Hiram was a member and past president of the Independent Insurance Agents of Georgia and a State National Director of Independent Insurance Agents of America. Hiram was a long-time member of the Dawson Lions Club, in which he served many capacities, including President. He was named by Lions International as a Melvin Jones Fellow. 

Hiram was an active member of Dawson United Methodist Church for over fifty years, where he served in many capacities. He was a member of P.T. Schley Masonic Lodge #229 F&AM, in which he served as secretary for over forty years. Hiram was a Fifty-year Mason and was on several occasions named “Member of the Year”. He was also a Shriner and a member of the Hasan Shrine Center. 

Outside of his professional endeavors, Hiram found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He had a passion for hunting and fishing, as well as unwavering support for his favorite team, the Georgia Bulldogs. He and his wife were blessed to travel extensively when their health allowed, and he loved to work in his yard and garden as long as he was able. 

Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Beverly Peeler of Dawson, children: Lynn Walker (Doug) of Savannah, GA; Beth Rogers (David); and David Peeler (Kathy), all of Dawson, GA. Grandchildren: Colt Pollock (Erin), Jake Pollock (Avery), Christopher Rogers (Emily), Olivia Rogers, Ansley Peeler, and Austin Peeler. Great-grandchildren: Reagan Pollock, Reid Pollock, Rylee Pollock, Oakleigh Pollock, and Cayden Pollock. Hiram is also survived by his cousin Ann McCay Munson.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at Dawson United Methodist Church from 10:00 AM until the funeral hour.
