Gregory “Greg” Apperson

Gregory “Greg” Apperson, of Lee County, Georgia, passed away on Friday, April 17, 2026 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital at the age of 59. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, April 20, 2026 at Mathews Funeral Home at 3:00 PM. Dr. Biff Coker will officiate.

Born on September 3, 1966, in Sylvester, Georgia, to the late Raymon Jean “R.J.” and Doris Watson Apperson. He grew up in Albany, Georgia and moved to Lee County in 1993. He devoted 20 years to the Lee County School System, serving in Plant Operations for the school system. In 2013, Greg started Apperson’s Heating and Cooling, known to many as a “jack of all trades”, known for his ability to fix anything.

Those who knew Greg remember him for his ever-present smile and contagious laugh, qualities that brightened the lives of friends, colleagues, and family alike. Greg had a deep passion for the outdoors. He loved to hunt and fish, enjoyed camping, and cherished family gatherings. Most of all he loved his grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and mother-in-law, Ann Salter.

Greg is survived by his beloved wife, Melissa Salter Apperson, and his children Jon Apperson, Lauren Apperson, and Christina Hunt (Adam), all of Lee County, Georgia, his grandchildren, Lukas Hunt and Lenora Hunt, siblings Anne Lester (Denver) of Dawson, GA, Mike Apperson of Lee County, GA, Rodney Apperson (Gail) of Albany, GA, Ray Apperson (Susan) of Georgetown, GA, and Wade Apperson (Tammy) of Lee County, GA, his father-in-law Joe Salter of Climax, GA and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation will take place on April 20, 2026, from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM at Mathews Funeral Home.
